Britton Deerfield Education Foundation

In early 2003, Britton-Macon School was approached by the trustees who were administering the estate of the late Max Larsen. Mr. Larsen was the original owner of the Ford dealership in Coldwater, Michigan, but went on to own many properties, including the former trucking property on the west side of Britton. The estate was selling the property and wanted the proceeds to remain in Britton. The school did not fall under the correct tax code for the estate to donate, so in October 2004, the Britton-Macon Area School Educational Foundation was organized under the umbrella of the Lenawee Community Foundation. The purpose of the foundation was to use donated funds to enhance the educational opportunities for students, including scholarships for Britton-Macon students, mini-grants for teachers, special projects and capital improvements to the Britton-Macon campus.

The Foundation began offering scholarships to graduating Britton-Macon seniors in 2004. This scholarship program has grown to twelve named scholarships awarded today. Also in 2004, the Foundation began awarding mini-teacher grants for specific equipment or programs the teachers deemed as critical to their educational curriculum. The athletic complex in Britton, including the football field, lights and bleachers, the athletic building including concessions, the baseball and softball fields and the 8-lane all-weather rubber track were all funded through the Foundation.

On July 1, 2011, Britton-Macon School and Deerfield School consolidated to what is now Britton-Deerfield Schools. The foundation has changed our name to the Britton-Deerfield Education Foundation, but our dedication to enhancing the quality of education through the funding of scholarships, mini-grants, capital improvements and special projects has continued. We now provide funding to help serve all Britton-Deerfield students as well as assist in capital projects for both the Britton and Deerfield campus.
